6.2.6 Switching helm stations

Always be careful when switching helm stations. Take into consideration how the waves move the boat while the station is not manned.

Risk of limited forward visibility.

Driving with limited visibility can cause collisions.

Always make sure you have proper lookout when driving the boat from the outside helm station.

The correct procedure varies depending on whether the boat uses a mechanical or electric remote controller.

Procedure
  1. Stop the boat safely by bringing the engine to idle.
Make sure the gear is switched to neutral.
  2. Disconnect the emergency cut-off switch cord from yourself, but leave it attached to the remote controller.
  3. Activate the other helm station by choosing the action that corresponds to your remote controller type.
    • For electric remote controller: move to the other helm station and press the "Station" button on the remote controller.
    • For mechanical remote controller: turn the helm station change switch to the desired helm station position, and move to that helm station.
  4. Attach the emergency cut-off switch cord to yourself and continue driving.
